My second class!

Describe
What I observed in this slice of the lesson was that students were bored at the beginning, but after I developed a warm-up called Pictionary, their attitude changed. They were more motivated because my attitude was different since I was more confident of the activities I was going to developed in the class.
As I had to develop controlled, semi-controlled, and free practice based on past perfect. I decided to make a conversation for them to memorize it. However, the conversation was short, and they memorize it really fast. Based on the conversation. I took them to basketball field for developing the onion ring. Moreover, I could notice, the students were really exited of going out of the classroom. After that. I performed a storytelling for them to practice the past perfect, and as I finished earlier, I developed an extra activity which was a role play. In this case I used a chart which was a conversation. Also, I used markers, and the board.

This time I was motivated because I prepared my activities very well. And as I knew that my students need to speak instead of writing I prepared more speaking activities. Also, I will try to give clear directions because some of they got confused.

The speaking activities helped the students to practice the past perfect. They noticed how important and necessary the past perfect is when speaking.

The speaking activities help the students to feel confident when they have to practice new tenses. Also, they do not feel afraid of practicing new vocabulary.

Based on what I already know about the speaking activities I think not only help students, but also the teacher as they make the teacher feels confident in the class.

Based on what I observed, I think students enjoyed the class. They felt really excited with the activities.

I believe that the speaking activities can help/ students learning since they are learning about not feeling afraid of speaking in another language.

So, in the future, I will give clear directions and I will use more body language.

In future lessons I will speak less, and I will allow the students to speak more than me.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will include a long conversation, and I will challenge the students to memorize it, and to practice more the speaking skill.

My first Class

Describe
When I started the class, the students were shy. I think they were bored, but they were curious about who I was. Then, they did not want to participate in class, and most of them were talking, and laughing. The topic was tag question, and I prepared the activities of the lesson plan that the teacher gave me, and I performed one semi-controlled activity. The seating arrangement was the horseshoe shape. Moreover, the materials I used were a chart, markers and the board.

At the beginning,  I was really nervous because the lesson plan was not clear for me and I thought I had to do the activities of the book the students have.

I think the students talked a lot because I was not motivated for doing the class since I was not sure about the activities I was going to developed. The lack of communication with the teacher affected.

I think the teacher's motivation is important because teachers transmit their energy to the students. Regarding to the topic I taught, students understood the topic really fast. It was not necessary a big explanation for them.

This was a big a problem in the class because the students did not see me as an authority. Hence, they were talking a lot and not paying attention to me.

Based on what I already know about the motivation of the teacher, I think it really helps in the class. If the teacher is not motivated in the class, the students will not pay attention.

Based on what I observed, I think that to take into consideration the age of students is an important factor. The teacher will act according to his student’s age. In my case my students are about 14-16 years old. Hence, the teacher needs to encourage them to speak through different activities as games.

I believe that the behavior of the teacher in the class can help or hinder the students learning.  A good attitude can motivated them, and a bad attitude cannot.

So, in the future, I will try to be motivated in the class, and prepare activities that encourage them to speak.

In future lessons I will speak aloud in the class, and I will be less serious.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will monitor them.

In future experiences I will also include to memorize the student’s name as they feel really important when the teacher know who they are.
