My second class!

Describe
What I observed in this slice of the lesson was that students were bored at the beginning, but after I developed a warm-up called Pictionary, their attitude changed. They were more motivated because my attitude was different since I was more confident of the activities I was going to developed in the class.
As I had to develop controlled, semi-controlled, and free practice based on past perfect. I decided to make a conversation for them to memorize it. However, the conversation was short, and they memorize it really fast. Based on the conversation. I took them to basketball field for developing the onion ring. Moreover, I could notice, the students were really exited of going out of the classroom. After that. I performed a storytelling for them to practice the past perfect, and as I finished earlier, I developed an extra activity which was a role play. In this case I used a chart which was a conversation. Also, I used markers, and the board.

This time I was motivated because I prepared my activities very well. And as I knew that my students need to speak instead of writing I prepared more speaking activities. Also, I will try to give clear directions because some of they got confused.

The speaking activities helped the students to practice the past perfect. They noticed how important and necessary the past perfect is when speaking.

The speaking activities help the students to feel confident when they have to practice new tenses. Also, they do not feel afraid of practicing new vocabulary.

Based on what I already know about the speaking activities I think not only help students, but also the teacher as they make the teacher feels confident in the class.

Based on what I observed, I think students enjoyed the class. They felt really excited with the activities.

I believe that the speaking activities can help/ students learning since they are learning about not feeling afraid of speaking in another language.

So, in the future, I will give clear directions and I will use more body language.

In future lessons I will speak less, and I will allow the students to speak more than me.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will include a long conversation, and I will challenge the students to memorize it, and to practice more the speaking skill.

  1. Hello, Ileana! I could notice you focused on speaking activities and that is great since students practice pronounciation. Also I could notice that you had problems when giving directions. What you ca do is to give short directions so students do not have to process a lot of information.

  2. Excellent, Ileana! You highlighted the importance of the warm-up. It cheers students up and helps them feel more energetic and motivated for the rest of the class. Something cool about your lesson is that you developed speaking activities. They are very important because they provide a chance for students to produce sentences in the target language by their own.
